History of the Plaza del Arco Property

Plaza del Arco facade
Plaza del Arco is a small, family-owned business. We are dedicated to delivering the highest standard of luxury, comfort and service. We make every effort to help ensure
a very rewarding experience.

Like most historical buildings in La Antigua, we have a long and noble history. The current building facade is from the 19th century, but as was the custom, the building incorporates elements from a series of reconstructions dating back to the 17th century.

In the early 20th century, the building was home to one of Guatemala's most famous literary figures and poets, Cesar Brañas.

Born in La Antigua
on December 13, 1899, Cesar Brañas has been recognized for his diaries, writings, articles and poems. His name transcended the period and he became a key figure in Guatemala's literary canon. His literary work is extensive and varied. .

He also worked as a journalist and was the founder of the Diario El Imparcial (The Impartial Newspaper) and was responsible of its literary page. Today, he is recognized as the founder of the APG (Association of Journalists of Guatemala).

The Cultural Center Cesar Brañas, in La Antigua, honors his name and works in various ways to incorporate art into the daily lives of Antiguenos; something Brañas surely would have supported.
